Product Information

A lovely vintage 15 1/2 inch viola from 2007, from the distinctive making hand of Peter Dodge

The lower body of the instrument is proportionally small compared to the ‘more popularly sized’ upper and middle sections, this proportion allows the feel of the intonation to be of a full size instrument, but the reach is closer to the shoulder. This proportion will benefit a player with a little shorter arm reach wanting the full viola feel. aproduces a beautifully deep bass. The upper bout curves are lovely formed to compensate for the instrument’s relatively smaller lower bout. This viola responds well and is easy to play.
String length 357mm; neck length 140mm; body stop 213mm, total body length (excluding button) 392mm (or 15 1/2 inch)

The body stop is 9mm shorter than a ‘standard’ Viola, the neck length has been proportionally shortened in line with the bridge position.

This instrument would be the perfect partner for a player who struggles stretching to a first position hand position on normal 16 inch instruments. Struggling to stretch to a certain measure over time may result in weariness and potentially pain which may linger. Posture and proportion are incredibly important and Bridge Street Violins is here to help you find the right instrument for you that is comfortable to play.
