Product Information

Paesold is dedicated to the production of bows, and adheres to the philosophy that wood of the highest quality is the indispensable requirement for producing exceptional bows. Their bows are as beautiful to look at as they are to play.

Paesold's master bowmakers travel to Brazil to personally inspect and select the best obtainable trees for their production of pernambuco and brazilwood bows. Before this wood can be used for bow making it must first be allowed to air dry naturally for many years. Only then does it fulfill the specific requirements needed in making Paesold bows. Weight, balance and flexibility are the determining factors in the playing qualities of all bows. Paesold's master craftsmen have become experts at interpreting each piece of bow wood to achieve the optimum combination of these essential qualities.

Paesold scientists have invented a unique quality control system. This Arcometer system is exclusive to Paesold and was developed by Paesold Master Bow Makers to combine the best of modern technology with a tradition of bow making that stretches back over 100 years. This process allows the craftsmen to evaluate the quality of each raw bow stick, to 'look into the wood' in advance of manufacture. Once the bow stick has been measured, the Arcometer test results objectively inform the Paesold Masters about wood qualities such as stiffness, flexibility and density. At this stage the weight and diameter of the bow is decided, which ensures that the bow achieves the optimum levels in playing and sound qualities. This quality evaluation in combination with the expertise of the Paesold Masters ensures that the properties of a Paesold bow are kept within very narrow tolerances and enables Paesold bows to have consistent characteristics throughout the entire range.

Features of all Paesold bows:

  • All bows are hand crafted from Brazilian wood sourced by Paesold masters

  • Paesold employ a 100% natural air drying process of at least 4 years

  • Unique Arcometer test plus visual and physical inspection by Master Bowmakers

  • Sticks are colored by ultraviolet light and French Polished with Shellac

  • All bows are leather lapped with German Silver or Sterling Silver

  • All Paesold bows are hand finished by skilled makers and inspected at every stage by Master Bow Makers

  • Brazilwood octagonal stick

  • 4-6 years minimum drying time

  • German-silver mounted

  • Ebony frog with Parisian eye
