Product Information
This Julius Heinrich Zimmermann cello is a fine example of German craftsmanship from the early 20th century. Made in Markneukirchen around 1920, it follows a Stradivari-inspired design, featuring an accessible upper bout, a well-defined waist, and a lower bout built for projection.
The cello is constructed from carefully selected tonewoods, with a medium-wide grained spruce top and a maple neck, ribs, and two-piece back. It has an active string length of 700mm, making it comfortable to play while offering a clear, resonant, and well-balanced tone. The instrument is fitted with ebony fittings and features an innovative endpin mechanism.
Professionally set up at Bridge Street Violins, this cello has been strung with Larsen Original strings, which enhance its warmth and clarity. It is sold on commission in as-is condition, with cosmetic damage to one front corner, which is reflected in the price. Once repaired, it should be insured for £3500-£4000.
A well-made vintage German cello with historical significance and excellent tonal qualities, ready to be played and enjoyed.

Cello Care Tips
To keep your cello in great condition and ensure it maintains its best sound, we recommend the following care tips:
Storage: Always store your cello in a cool, dry place. Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity, as these can affect the wood.
Cleaning: Clean your cello regularly with a soft cloth to remove dust and rosin build-up. Be careful not to touch the varnish with your fingers.
String Care: Check your strings for wear and replace them when necessary. Avoid over-tightening the strings, as this can cause unnecessary stress on the instrument.
Bow Maintenance: Loosen the bow hair after playing and wipe the stick with a dry, soft cloth to remove rosin dust, preventing build-up and protecting the finish.
