Product Information

A good rehair can transform the performance of your bow, restoring grip, clarity, and response. Our rehair service is carried out by a professional bowmaker, ensuring exceptional quality for violin, viola, cello, and double bass bows.

Over time, bow hair stretches, wears down, and loses its ability to hold rosin effectively. You might notice it slipping on the string, producing a thin or inconsistent sound. Hair can also become uneven or contaminated with dirt and oils from the hands. In some cases, it may even start to snap or become patchy. A rehair is recommended every 6 to 12 months for regular players, or sooner if the bow sees intensive use.

We use high-grade unbleached Mongolian horsehair as standard, with white hair available on request. Each bow is carefully assessed before rehairing to ensure it is in suitable condition. The camber, fittings, and general wear are all checked to make sure the bow performs as it should once rehaired.

This service is offered through our Billinghay workshop, where we work closely with our trusted bowmaker to maintain consistent quality. Whether you play on a modern bow or a fine vintage example, we ensure the tension and ribbon width are expertly balanced.

Please note:
This service is only available through our Billinghay workshop. Bows can be posted to us at the owner’s risk, and return postage will be charged separately.

Sending your bow to us?
For safe shipping, please follow these guidelines:

  • Loosen the bow hair slightly before packing.

  • Wrap the bow in acid-free tissue paper or silk.

  • Add ample padding, avoiding direct contact between bubble wrap and the stick.

  • Use a hard case or a well-padded tube.

  • Pop a note inside the package with your name, email address, phone number, and return address so we know who your bow belongs to and can get in touch if needed.

  • Mark the parcel as FRAGILE.

If you're unsure whether your bow is ready for a rehair, we're happy to advise.
