Product Information
The fingerboard is one of the most critical components of a bowed string instrument. Over time, grooves can develop where the strings make contact, and unevenness in the surface can cause problems such as buzzing, loss of resonance, or difficulty in fingering.
Our fingerboard adjustment service includes a full assessment followed by planing, reshaping, and polishing the playing surface to restore proper relief and curvature. This process ensures consistent string clearance across the board, allowing for comfortable fingering and optimal tone production.
We also check the nut and bridge alignment to ensure your instrument performs at its best following the adjustment. Whether you are experiencing noticeable wear or simply looking to optimise the setup, this service is ideal for maintaining long-term playability.
This service is suitable for:
Violin
Viola
Cello
Double Bass
Please Note:
This service is only available through our Billinghay workshop. Instruments can be posted to us at the owner's risk, and return postage will be charged separately.
Sending your instrument to us?
Please follow these packaging guidelines:
Loosen the strings slightly before packing.
Wrap the instrument in acid-free tissue paper or soft cloth.
Add ample padding; never allow bubble wrap to touch varnish directly.
Pop a note inside the package with your name, email address, phone number, and return address so we know who your instrument belongs to and can get in touch if needed.
Use a hard case or well-padded box.
Mark the parcel as FRAGILE.
If you're not sure whether your fingerboard needs attention, we’re happy to advise.
