Product Information
The topnut (or nut) is a critical component of your violin, guiding the strings from the pegbox to the fingerboard. Over time, wear, improper shaping, or incorrect string grooves can cause issues such as excessive string height, buzzing, or uneven spacing. Our professional topnut adjustment service includes:
Precision reshaping of the nut to ensure even string height and comfortable playability.
Adjusting string grooves to the correct depth for smooth tuning and minimal friction.
Ensuring proper string spacing for balanced finger placement and ease of play.
Smoothing and polishing for a refined finish that enhances durability and aesthetics.
If a full nut replacement is required due to excessive wear or damage, we will advise on the best course of action.
Postal Service:
We understand that visiting our workshop in person may not always be feasible. Therefore, we accept instruments sent to us via post for topnut adjustments. Please note the following:
Owner's Responsibility: All shipping costs and associated risks are borne by the owner. We recommend using a reliable courier service with appropriate insurance coverage to protect your valuable instrument during transit.
Packaging Guidelines: Ensure your instrument is securely packaged to prevent damage.
Loosen the strings slightly to reduce tension on the instrument during transit.
Wrap the instrument in soft, non-abrasive material such as acid-free tissue paper or silk before adding protective padding.
Use foam or padded inserts to protect against impact—bubble wrap should never touch the varnish directly.
Place the instrument inside a hard case or a well-padded box.
Pop a note inside the package with your name, email address, phone number, and return address so we know who your instrument belongs to and can get in touch if needed.
Use additional padding around the case to prevent movement within the shipping box.
Clearly label the package as 'FRAGILE' and ensure it is securely sealed.
Booking: Before sending your instrument, please contact us to schedule the repair. This helps us manage our workload and provide you with a timely service.
