Product Information

This Beare & Sons violin, labelled Francois Barzoni, is a fine example of late 19th-century French violin making. Built in 1899 and influenced by Stradivari’s design, it offers a rich, resonant tone with excellent projection. The violin has been professionally set up to enhance its clarity, responsiveness, and depth of sound, making it an excellent choice for advanced players and orchestral musicians. This instrument is in excellent condition, retaining its character while benefiting from expert craftsmanship and historical significance.

François Barzoni – Violin Maker

François Barzoni was a violin maker associated with the renowned London-based violin dealership, Beare & Sons. Barzoni’s violins were crafted in France, with a particular focus on quality and craftsmanship. His instruments, produced around the late 19th century, were specifically made for Beare & Sons and were typically labeled with his name, offering an exceptional blend of artistry and performance.

The violins under the Barzoni name were often based on the well-known models of Stradivari and Guarneri, reflecting a blend of traditional design and expert craftsmanship. Known for their fine materials, Barzoni violins featured a distinct varnish, often golden-yellow to red-brown, contributing to their striking appearance and warm, resonant tone.

Although Barzoni's name is not as widely known as some of the great Italian makers, the instruments produced under his label are highly regarded by musicians and collectors for their tonal richness and the care put into their construction. This particular 1899 Beare & Sons violin, labeled François Barzoni, stands as a testament to the high-quality workmanship of the time, offering musicians an instrument that combines both historical value and musical excellence.

Violin Care Tips

To keep your violin in great condition and ensure it maintains its best sound, we recommend the following care tips:

  • Storage: Always store your violin in a cool, dry place. Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity, as these can affect the wood.

  • Cleaning: Clean your violin regularly with a soft cloth to remove dust and rosin build-up. Be careful not to touch the varnish with your fingers.

  • String Care: Check your strings for wear and replace them when necessary. Avoid over-tightening the strings, as this can cause unnecessary stress on the instrument.

  • Bow Maintenance: Regularly check the tension of the bow and keep it properly tightened when not in use. Always re-hair the bow when necessary to maintain smooth performance.
