Product Information

The Laurentius Huige 2013 violin is a remarkable instrument, expertly crafted for advanced players and those in orchestral settings. The back, neck, and ribs are made from Bosnian flamed maple, all sourced from the same tree, while the top is constructed from evenly grained spruce from the Alps. This combination of high-quality materials contributes to the instrument’s exceptional tonal qualities and projection.

Based on Antonio Stradivari's ‘Messiah’ model from the PG mould, this violin showcases the influence of one of the most renowned violin makers in history, giving it a classic and powerful voice. Signed and labelled by the maker, Laurentius Huige, it is a true work of art with a rich legacy.

A unique feature of this violin is its connection to prominent musicians. While the violin was being crafted, the back piece was taken to a concert of Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas in London. There, the violin was signed on the inside by Alasdair Fraser, Natalie Haas, and Rachel Barton-Pine, three musicians who were significant influences on the maker during the creation of this instrument. These signatures can be viewed through the f-holes, adding a layer of personal history and intrigue to the violin.

The violin is fitted with ebony fittings and Pirastro’s Evah Pirazzi strings, offering superior sound and strong projection, making it ideal for advanced players in orchestral settings. This instrument is contemporary and has been in the private collection of the maker until now, ensuring it remains in pristine condition for its next owner.

The back length is precisely 358 mm and the body stop (length from neck to the bridge) is 195 mm. The pegs turn very smoothly and the instrument also benefits from a kevlar tailgut holding the strings under tension.

Violin Care Tips

  • Storage: Always store your violin in a cool, dry place. Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity, as these can affect the wood.

  • Cleaning: Clean your violin regularly with a soft cloth to remove dust and rosin build-up. Be careful not to touch the varnish with your fingers.

  • String Care: Check your strings for wear and replace them when necessary. Avoid over-tightening the strings, as this can cause unnecessary stress on the instrument.

  • Bow Maintenance: Loosen the bow hair after playing and wipe the stick with a dry, soft cloth to remove rosin dust, preventing build-up and protecting the finish.
