Product Information
This Vintage German Violin from circa 1895 is made after a Maggini style model, featuring an oversized body with double purfling along the edges of both the front and back. The medium-wide, evenly grained spruce top enhances tonal depth, while the maple neck, ribs, and two-piece back provide a strong foundation. Measuring 369mm on the back, with a bridge position of 200mm and a neck length of 130mm, it offers an active string length of 335mm.
The violin is a full-sized 4/4, though it is more intuitive for taller players due to its slightly oversized dimensions. The instrument has been fitted with a new set of Dominant strings and professionally set up at Bridge Street Violins with Larsen Aurora strings for optimal sound quality. Known for its clear, strong, and balanced sound, this violin has gained its full potential and is perfect for players seeking a powerful, resonant tone.
The Maggini Influence
Giovanni Paolo Maggini (1580–1630) was an esteemed Italian luthier from Brescia, known for his distinctive double purfling, larger-bodied designs, and deep, rich tonal qualities. His violins, which influenced later makers across Europe, are prized for their full, resonant sound. Many 19th-century German violin makers produced instruments inspired by Maggini’s designs, capturing his trademark aesthetics and tonal attributes while making them accessible to a wider range of musicians.

Violin Care Tips
To keep your violin in great condition and ensure it maintains its best sound, we recommend the following care tips:
Storage: Always store your violin in a cool, dry place. Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity, as these can affect the wood.
Cleaning: Clean your violin regularly with a soft cloth to remove dust and rosin build-up. Be careful not to touch the varnish with your fingers.
String Care: Check your strings for wear and replace them when necessary. Avoid over-tightening the strings, as this can cause unnecessary stress on the instrument.
Bow Maintenance: Regularly check the tension of the bow and keep it properly tightened when not in use. Always re-hair the bow when necessary to maintain smooth performance.
