Product Information
A well-fitted soundpost is crucial for your instrument’s tonal quality and structural health. Our full soundpost replacement service includes the carving and fitting of a new post using premium-grade Alpine Spruce from Alpentonholz, a highly respected Bavarian wood merchant.
Each soundpost is made from locally sourced Bavarian Alpine Spruce, harvested at the ideal time in winter to ensure strength and acoustic performance. The wood is seasoned and turned in Alpentonholz’s own workshop, with width tolerances of ±0.2mm to ensure precision. This quality of material offers excellent resonance, clarity, and long-term stability.
You may choose from three soundpost grades:
Excellent Grade (AA): Split spruce, seasoned for a minimum of 5 years
Premium Grade (A): Seasoned spruce, minimum of 5 years
Good Grade (B): Seasoned spruce, minimum of 5 years, with more visible variance in reed lines
This service includes:
Removal of the existing soundpost (if present)
Inspection of the internal arching and setup
Carving a new soundpost to match the internal contours
Precision fitting and placement to optimise tone and projection
Final tuning of position and tension for a responsive, balanced sound
