Product Information
Seams can naturally open over time due to changes in humidity, string tension, or age-related movement. While open seams are a common issue in wooden instruments, it’s important to address them promptly to maintain the structural integrity and sound quality of the instrument.
This service involves a careful inspection of the entire instrument to check for any open seams along the top plate, back plate, and ribs. Any areas found to be open will be professionally cleaned, realigned, and resealed using traditional hide glue for a secure and acoustically sound join.
This service includes:
Full inspection for open seams across the body of the instrument
Cleaning and preparation of affected areas
Re-gluing open seams with traditional hide glue
Clamping and setting to ensure a stable, long-lasting bond
Final inspection to confirm integrity and tonal responsiveness
Availability: This service is available at our Billinghay workshop.
